Can I split a bill unevenly?
Yes. SplitSmart offers four split modes: Equal (even split), Proportional (percentage-based), By Amount (assign specific costs per person), and Multiplier (apply consumption multipliers like 2x or 0.5x). Choose whichever mode matches how your group actually shared the meal or expense.
How does receipt scanning work?
Point your camera at any receipt and SplitSmart uses on-device optical character recognition (OCR) to extract line items, prices, tax, and tip amounts. All image processing happens locally on your device. The camera image is processed in memory and immediately discarded -- nothing is saved or transmitted. You can review and edit extracted items before splitting.
Can I share the results with my group?
Yes. After calculating a split, tap the share button to generate a formatted summary showing who owes what. You can share via Messages, email, AirDrop, or any compatible app. Recipients see a clean text breakdown and do not need to install SplitSmart.
Is my data private?
Completely. SplitSmart stores all data -- including split history, participant names, and preferences -- locally on your device only. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, and no data collection of any kind. Deleting the app removes all data permanently.
What split modes are available?
SplitSmart includes four modes. Equal divides the total evenly. Proportional lets you set a percentage for each person. By Amount assigns specific item costs to individuals. Multiplier applies a factor to each person's share (useful when someone ordered significantly more or less). Tax and tip are automatically distributed proportionally in all modes.
Can I edit past splits?
You can view past splits from your history and use them as a starting point for a new split. The original record is preserved for reference. You can also mark frequently used groups or venues as favorites for quick access in future splits.
